How AIESEC membership changed my life - AIESEC in The Netherlands

How AIESEC membership changed my life

I became an AIESEC member thinking it would fill up some free time but the AIESEC membership experience ended up being so much more.

When I joined AIESEC over a year ago, I didn’t know that the organization would impact my life the way it has. At first, it was just a nice way to fill up some free time, but it ended up being so much more. From the get-go, I was guided through my experience and given the tools needed to fulfill my functional tasks. The instructions that I received ranged from practical skills like how to sell our projects, to more personal like tuning into people’s needs.

With the biweekly one-to-ones, the goals I set for myself with my Vice President are reviewed and discussed according to what I have, or haven’t, achieved. Because of this, I’m continuously challenged to step out of my comfort zone and grow as a person. I can already see the impact AIESEC has had on my life and will tell potential future employers about my time at AIESEC.

Besides these skills, another factor that makes AIESEC life-changing is the people. I did not expect to meet so many passionate young people and learn about their inspiring stories. They are all so friendly and open to talking to anyone. Even if you don’t know anyone, you will shortly find yourself talking to new faces! From small talks to deep conversations, we can discuss anything and get vulnerable with one another.

My Local Committee, Leiden,  feels like my second family. The moment I enter the office, I’m greeted by lovely faces and warm hugs. They are always in my corner, cheering me on to be the best version of me but also pushing me to step out of my comfort zone. The people in AIESEC make it the special thing it is and without them, AIESEC would be a very different place.

Inspired, empowered and ready for change: The story of four young leaders in the contemporary world

When we talk about young leaders, people quickly think of Greta Thunberg or Mark Zuckerberg, due to their media attention or Greta’s well-known, activist speeches on climate change. But more quietly, the world is packed with young, inspirational leaders, trying to create a more stable, sustainable and inclusive world for future generations, minority groups or the society they are part of.

Discovering culture in Morocco: An exchange to Marrakech

When I decided to participate in the Nour project of AIESEC, I felt like I did something impulsive yet brave. I never went abroad on my own before. My AIESEC volunteering project in Italy

My AIESEC volunteering project in Italy

In January 2020 I participated in an AIESEC Project on environment and sustainability in Castellana Grotte, Italy. I was lucky to stay six weeks in one of the most beautiful small villages I have been to. My work was about teaching the kids in the local Highschool on the UN SDGs and sustainability. My fellow AIESEC students were so kind to pick me up in Bari. They made sure I was safe and showed me how to travel to my destination.
