Networking 101

Networking is a valuable asset that can help you develop strong connections, broaden your knowledge, and accomplish your professional and personal objectives. Ultimately, growing your network is critical to your success as a student, worker, or business owner. Here are some ideas for expanding your network:

Attend Events and Conferences

Attending events and conferences related to your industry is an excellent way to meet like-minded people and expand your network. At those events, you can connect with people who share your interests, learn about new trends and developments, and gain valuable insights.

Tip: Make sure to bring business cards and be prepared to introduce yourself and share your expertise.

Join Professional Associations

Joining a professional association related to your field can provide you with opportunities to network and gain access to valuable resources. With these associations, you can attend meetings, conferences, and seminars, and connect with other professionals in your industry. Alternatively, AIESEC offers traineeship opportunities abroad that help you expand your network on a global level and deepen your cross-cultural understanding.

Attend Networking Events

Networking events such as business lunches, happy hours, and meetups can provide you with opportunities to connect with other professionals in your area. To do this, look for events hosted by your industry or professional associations or consider hosting your own event.

Volunteer for Organizations

Volunteering for organizations, such as AIESEC, that align with your values and interests can help you meet new people and expand your network while giving back to your community. You can work with other volunteers who share your passion, build relationships with them, and gain valuable skills and experiences.

Maintain Relationships

Maintaining relationships with your network is just as important as building new ones. You can do this by sending thank-you notes or emails to people you have met and keeping in touch regularly. In addition, you can offer your expertise or support to others in your network to strengthen your relationships.

In conclusion, growing your network is essential for your personal and professional growth. By attending events and conferences, joining professional associations, utilizing social media, attending networking events, volunteering for organizations, and maintaining relationships, you can expand your network and open up new opportunities for yourself. Remember to always approach networking with authenticity, integrity, and a willingness to learn and help others, and you’ll find that your network will grow naturally and provide you with valuable support and resources throughout your career and life.

My AIESEC volunteering project in Italy

My AIESEC volunteering project in Italy

In January 2020 I participated in an AIESEC Project on environment and sustainability in Castellana Grotte, Italy. I was lucky to stay six weeks in one of the most beautiful small villages I have been to. My work was about teaching the kids in the local Highschool on the UN SDGs and sustainability. My fellow AIESEC students were so kind to pick me up in Bari. They made sure I was safe and showed me how to travel to my destination.
