The wake up call - AIESEC in The Netherlands

The wake up call

“It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.” – Leonardo Da Vinci

We believe that leadership is the fundamental solution to achieve Peace and Fulfilment of Humankind’s Potential. We create cross-cultural exchange opportunities which allow young people to develop their leadership through practical experiences in challenging environments.

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has put our organisation to a great challenge meaning at the same time leadership development of young people all around the world.

Countries are taking drastic measures in an attempt to contain the virus. Suddenly, our politicians are able to act together, strangers smile at you on the street and young people go shopping for others in their free time.

This will not be the last pandemic humanity is faced with. This is also not the last global crisis we have to deal with.

What if climate change will put our lives at risk sooner than expected?

What if thousands of people have to die at the border of the European Union before they can seek shelter?

What if populism is finding its way back into power to destroy everything the generations of the past 70 years worked so hard for?

What if our generation can stop all of this?

This is a wake-up call.

We believe that leadership is the fundamental solution and it can be developed in everyone.

Leadership does not stop here.

Leadership is an everyday thing.

Leadership does not have a wow moment.

Leadership is the continuous improvement of oneself to become a better version of oneself.

Leadership never stops.

This is a wake-up call for all young people in this country to not lean back.

It is our responsibility to transmit positivity to move forward throughout uncertainty,

engage with others to achieve a bigger purpose,

enjoy taking responsibility for improving the world,

and use our unique strengths to contribute.

My AIESEC volunteering project in Italy

My AIESEC volunteering project in Italy

In January 2020 I participated in an AIESEC Project on environment and sustainability in Castellana Grotte, Italy. I was lucky to stay six weeks in one of the most beautiful small villages I have been to. My work was about teaching the kids in the local Highschool on the UN SDGs and sustainability. My fellow AIESEC students were so kind to pick me up in Bari. They made sure I was safe and showed me how to travel to my destination.
