An interview with Hidde, Exchange Participant Manager oGT

What is it like to be part of the world’s largest youth-run organisation? To develop yourself in a group of people that inspire you to reach for the stars while being there to catch you in case you fall? In the series “Develop your leadership skills with aiesec.”, we interviewed different members of AIESEC The Netherlands for you about their experiences and learnings of being an AIESECer. In this fourth interview, we talked to Hidde, 21, about his experience as Exchange Participant Manager Outgoing Global Talent (oGT) in AIESEC Groningen.

I: What was the highlight of your AIESEC experience?

H: My highlight was the take-over weekend with everyone of my local committee last year. It was the basically my first experience at AIESEC. It was an amazing way to start that term!


I: What did you learn about yourself through your AIESEC experience?

H: I have learned more about my strengths and weaknesses and how to cope and use them on daily basis.


I: Were there any challenges you had to overcome during your AIESEC experience? How did you manage this?

H: I think the most common challenge was dealing with the work I had to do for AIESEC and all the other things, being a full-time student too. I think doing a year as part-timer taught me to professionally plan my week and work more efficiently.


I: What key learning are you taking away from your AIESEC experience?

H: What I take away from this AIESEC experience is that asking the best of yourself everyday is the only way to develop on social and professional level.


I: If you could give one piece of advice to (potential) future AIESECers, what would it be?

H: If you don’t try, you’ll never know what it is to challenge yourself.
