5 bizarre delicatessen in het buitenland

Het leuke van reizen is dat je elke keer in een totaal andere cultuur belandt… In Nederland kijken we niet raar op van haring met uitjes, bitterballen en kroketten uit de muur, maar niet in elke cultuur zijn de delicatessen zo onschuldig als hier! Alhoewel het natuurlijk altijd leuk is om je te laten verrassen door onbekende tradities, bereiden wij je toch voor de zekerheid even voor op gerechten die je wellicht liever wil skippen in bepaalde landen….

1. Wespenkoekjes

Hoewel wespen in Nederland vaak spastische reacties uitlokken, zijn ze in Japan zeker niet bang voor deze beesten. Sterker nog, ze koken wespen en leggen ze te drogen om ze vervolgens te transformeren in koekjes met rijstmeel! Koekje erbij?

2. Vleermuizenpasta

Houden jullie ook zo van Thais eten? Volgende keer toch maar even oppassen als je een onbekende pasta op je bord ziet liggen. In Thailand worden vleermuizen namelijk gevangen, levend gekookt en tot een pasta gestampt… Delicatesse? Dacht het niet!

3. Eekhoornhersenen

In Nederland wordt meteen de verrekijker erbij gepakt als er een eekhoorn is gespot, en terecht. In Kentucky daarentegen wordt meteen het jachtgeweer getrokken! Daar vinden ze eekhoornhersenen namelijk een echte delicatesse! Gewoon op een toastje bij de borrel, of geklutst met een ei. Ja. Echt.

4. Casu Marzu

Ook zo’n fan van het kaasplankje? In Sardinië gaan ze nog net even een stapje verder wat betreft oude kazen, want Cazu Marzu is daar prominent aanwezig bij de borrel… En dit is niets minder dan rotte schapenkaas met vaak nog levende larven erin! Kaas met een beetje extra ‘bite’ dus.. Geen wonder dat dit product de Europese Unie niet in komt!

5. Cuy Cavia

Heb jij ook zo’n schattige cavia thuis die je het liefst overal mee naartoe neemt? Neem dit nog even extra in overweging als je op reis gaat naar Peru, Ecuador of Bolivia, want voor je het weet ligt hij traag geroosterd in een marinade van tabasco op je bord!
