Let’s discuss the elephant in the water. - AIESEC in The Netherlands

Let’s discuss the elephant in the water.

Plastic waste is a huge problem. Every year, 12 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans. It’s time to discuss the elephant in the water. Single-use plastics are a human addiction that we must start facing. Plastic pollution is not only impacting our waters and marine life, but also the human food chain and our overall health (plasticoceans.org).

Youth 4 Global Goals

As AIESEC we’re take action. We’ve partnered with the United Nations to help them achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): 17 Global Goals to end to extreme poverty, inequality and climate change by 2030. Youth 4 Global Goals is an AIESEC Initiative through which we aim to mobilize youth towards the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. Our initiative aims to educate youth about the SDGs and provide practical volunteering opportunities to unleash their potential while being active world citizens.

Life below water

One the SDGs is ‘Life below water’. In order to achieve this goal we must, among others, reduce marine pollution. By 2025, we must prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, particularly from land-based activities, including marine debris and nutrient pollution.

We need your help

And this is where we need your help. Your actions matter. We live in an era in which single-use plastics are the norm, rather than the exception. We need to rethink how we use plastic and take action to reduce our plastic footprint.
One very easy way to do this is to simply re-use the bottle we just gave to use. It’s a gift, from us to you, because we want you to help us in our cause. If you, instead of buying a new bottle of water every day, use this bottle during your student life, you will save over 40 kilo’s of plastic1!

So please, re-use this bottle.

1. One bottle per day for four years, 40 grams per bottle: (365 x 4 x 40)/1000 = 40,88
